i’m not home at the ranch but i am out of the north country and this is the capital city on July first, 2006!  so life is very good.  the girls are all upstairs in the bunk.  downstairs its very quiet.  and very quiet in this part of town.  just up the street at the parliament buildings, it might be quiet now but it won’t be for long!  the good ole canada day festivities will be firing up with a giant brew ha ha and ending tonight with a crash boom bang fireworks display.
hopefully it doesn’t rain.
but right now, at 7 a.m., we have sunshine.
so this is it.  summer vacation has officially started.  got out yesterday morning.  and what a trip that was.  the only thing of interest we saw was one dead moose, a big one, laying there on the highway.  a full size van had run into it and i don’t know who fared better, the moose or the driver of that van.  tough to say if the driver was still alive.  we had a meeting to attend so we blazed right on past.  folks had pulled over by that point to offer assistance anyway and neither of us are doctors…
or nurses!
ha ha.
tough luck for whoever, and a terrible way to start off the long weekend but hey, it wasn’t us.
so i am here.  at home.  and the vacation is officially underway and it feels grand.
don’t know how long we are going to stay here in the city but the bottom line is we have to make it into something.  the beaches down there at the island will have to wait till we get there!
goal number one: (for me…   ) get yourself back together man!  you need help!  fix that thing.  turn it around!  re boot it!  you aint what you were 10 months ago.  but that is what the place will do to you if and when you’re not careful.  and that was very much the case the past 2 months at least.  anyway.  its behind you.  leave it there where it belongs.
leave it there and enjoy what today has to offer.

july 5th, 2006:  yallooo there.  good to hear from you.  i hope the fireworks on the fourth were a blast…  ha ha!  pun intended.
up here in the capital city: the weather has been as advertised, sunny and hot.  i’m in the city this month, and on the island next month.  fortunately for us, there is a community swimming pool just 5 minutes from where we live, so our little buddy jazzy gets her fair share.  we go over around noon and don’t leave till the kick us out, which is around 430.  now that’s some serious pool time and all the neighbourhood kids are there so she has herself a blast.  the water is only 3 feet deep!  so a guy like me, well i guess i get to catch a few rays!
(have to remember to take a good book next time…   )
(next time means the next 25 days!)
well its been 6 months since i ended the old twinravens community but i really wish now that i hadn’t because there were some photos on there, that weren’t saved to anywhere else and i’m missing seeing those.  foolish thing to do, closing that site.
well its in the past and the pictures on gone.  so i can tell you we won’t be closing this site down anytime soon.  i learned my lesson.  glad you like the new paintings.  i have created some new designs that i rather like, and some of those will be going to the big canvas, whenever i get the opportune to paint.  when they are ready, i shall post them here.  or at twinravens.com.
anywho!  good to hear from you.  glad to know you’re doing okay.

saturday morning in the city, but the streets are quiet at 6 a.m.  the trees on the hillside are filled with bird songs and all is very grand.  looks like another hot day on the schedule!  which means at noon, we, my old buddy Jazzy and me, are off to the pool for another round of fun in the sun.  its great over there because its a real kids whoop up.  all kinds of kids of different cultures and colors visit that pool and you know wha?  i wish i had that when i was young.  being the only indio on the block, in a town full of whites, made for some tough going at times but aah…  its in the past.  jazzy won’t have to go through that in this town.
spent the day yesterday walking around the city downtown and its full of all kinds.  sometimes when i’m up there in the bush and i see folks doing weird things, i think its exclusive to up there but it isn’t!  its everywhere.  i saw a woman riding one of those 4 wheel electric skooters with all the bells and whistles and i thought the poor lady, crippled at that young age.  then i saw her stop, get off the thing and walk into a store and come out with cigarettes!
too lazy to walk!
good grief.
i know as i was walking, with every turn i was thanking the great spirit for being able to walk.  and on quieter streets, i could hear my feet hitting the ground and the sounded reminded me of the old heart beat, the back bone and core of a straight traditional pow wow song.
so the weirdness is not isolated in the north country.  i guess you can find it and see it just about anywhere you go.
anyway, the summer is still young but soon the full moon of july will be here.  tough to enjoy it here in the city, so that is why i’m packing a nice picnic dinner on monday and taking a drive into the country side.  that way i can see it and enjoy!
here it is, july 8th, 2006!  beauty!

july 17th, 2006.  couldn’t sleep last night, it was just too hot!  at midnight it was still 33 degrees and the humidity was through the roof.  no AC…
so i put a movie on, and foolishly picked a film i’d not seen before: Amityville Horror, 2005 version.  i saw the first one, way back in the 70’s and it scared the wits out of me, especially that little girl chatting with her imaginary friend.  this 2005 version was just as spooky in my late night books and it seriously creeped me out.  so once the final credits were rolling, i took a stroll outside and thought, ah why not?  i jumped into the car took another drive into the country but even on a sunday night, close to midnight, there were a lot of cars screaming around those back roads and i was asking myself, what are these guys doing back here?  i went a little further and soon i saw: they were racing.
so i quickly out of their way and hit the main highway and came back to the city, wide awake and hearing noises…   i don’t know if it was in my head or in the car or what but noises they were and i thought lads, this heat is getting to me!!!
suppose to be another one just like yesterday but this time we aint fooling around too far away from that swimming pool!  that oughta keep us cool and keep my bungled up mind cooled as well.
best thing is to stay away from any more late night horror movies.

july 19, 2006:  ah but another beautiful summer day is in the works.  been up since 6, cleaning house and enjoying the fact that the humidex isn’t up at 40 degrees!!!  you can actually sit down without getting a sweat on!  and the girls are still in the bunks upstairs.
you could sleep last night!
been looking over the stash here, and the bottom line is we’re luggin way too much stuff.  so i have declared its yard sale time, and this saturday is the day for it.  i mean i have a hundred CD’s i never listen to, and never will listen to again!  so what am i doing carrying those?  makes no sense to me.  out with them.  took them over to the CD exchange downtown yesterday and they only took 10 of them.  exchanged them for some jazz music, and beauty music it is!  Ella Fitzgerald’s Love Songs, John Coltrane’s Blue Train, Chet Baker’s The Jazz Singer 1959, and Tony Bennett’s Essential.  Those are my summer tunes!  cause my dopey nirvana, pearl jam, sound garden days are long gone!  long long gone!  i am no longer driving the road from Toronto to Sudbury at 3 a.m. in the summer time, alone and barefoot behind the wheel!  man its been over 6 years since i did that gig and its good!  reminds me of a chapter in a novel i read, night time is for sleeping boy, especially at your age.  leave the night time driving up to the 20 somethings.
ha ha!
mid week…  the boys out on the street who are re doing it, are at work at 7 a.m. and man those machines they are using are noisy!  they are putting the pavement down this week and it stinks!  i hope it gets breezy today so the place doesn’t smell the dreaded tar pits.
dreaming about that yard sale.  its going to be nice if we can get rid of this junk!
you know its amazing the stuff you collect and for why?  we have boxes of it downstairs, still crated, from the move ove 18 months ago!  still in the boxes.  so what the heck is in those boxes that is so important?  that remains taped up?
that tiredness lads.  it makes no sense.
i have all these dopey collector plates i bought over 20 years, suppose to be some kind of investment…
i looked them up on the internet sites yesterday and they aren’t worth a goddamn penny!  yet there they surely are, on the book shelf, taking up all kinds of space and no one here is interested in them nor will they be!
or what about my elk antlers?  what the heck am i doing with elk antlers?  why do i have those?
so.
a good ole fashioned yard sale is going to be just what the doctor ordered.
that’s this saturday, weather permitting.
i’ll let you know how it goes.

july 25, 2006:  just getting out of the bunk, all of us, girls too, and here it is just after 9 a.m.!  that’s sleeping in around this place!  we had a late night last night, all of us, up and enjoying the summer night festivities.  twas a beautiful evening full of beautiful creatures!
i think we called it quits after midnight.
the thunder and lightning arrived later, like maybe 2 or 3 a.m., and man it was on full service.  loud and bright!  we saw a flash and started counting but didn’t get to one…  Boom!!!  and crackling.  it was big time.  i was sleeping right next to the window and the rain was blowing in sideways right through the screen!  so it was something on the wild side.  in my mind i was thinking it would be quite something to sit up and watch this or maybe go out back on the deck and take a look but the body wasn’t budging!
it was a beautiful storm.
this morning its over cast, very warm, humid, and the streets are soaked.  we needed a good rain anyway.  hasn’t rained all month.

august 25, 2006:  back in the city after two weeks at the beautiful island.  ah what a paradise we have over there.  i think the girls are slowly coming around to my way of thinking about that grand landscape.  they loved providence bay.  why not?  it is a grand place to be on a sunny afternoon, spring, summer or autumn.  been there in the winter and its a tad too cool for lounging!  but the summer, its a glorious place.  and i’m thankful to have been there and seen so much!
so next week…  gosh!  back to the boons and the 10 month jam behind the lines…  that makes you wonder what you did during those early summer morning.
